STORY Sessions 5: Thando Thusi & Marine Surf Lifesaving Club
In the midst of uncertainty and facing many obstacles, a few men decided to tack charge of the future of a lifesaving club rather than walk away.
Now, Marine Surf Lifesaving club is a prominent fixture on the Durban promenade with arguably the most loyal members.
What’s amazing is how these men went about saving the club. With thinking that seemed to be counter-culture and driven by a bigger picture, not only did these men save a club but they established a home for kids growing through the ranks of water sport development.
Thando Thusi is fruit of the process. A kid who grew up far from the ocean, and with little understanding of his love for water from his community, Thando is now a winning paddler and head life-guard down at South Beach.
He’ll be the first to tell you, it’s all due to the attitude of the men who started it all.
Come hear them tell their story, with Thando, on 16 May, at our first outdoor event down in Parkade B of uShaka Marine World.
This is a story about true nation building. Get ready to tear down some walls and break open some boxes.
As always, entrance is free with food and drinks on sale. See you there.
